490 Days to the 2010 Mid-Term Congressional Elections
Well, Folks....
Monica Conyers has resigned her seat on Detroit's City Council after pleading guilty to one count of bribery stemming from a multi-million sludge hauling contract she originally opposed but then reversed he vote. By itself, this one plea bargain could cost Conyers three years in federal prison. However her lawyer argues that under federal guidelines, she should only get 30 to 37 months. Conyers also walks away from allegations she accepted some $40,000 in jewelry from a local pawnbroker in exchange for a favorable vote on local regulations of pawn shop operators. Conyers was accused of selling her vote to Synagro Corporation for a contract to operate Detroit Water & Sewerage main operations. Conyers' husband, U.S. Rep. John Conyers (D-Detroit) issued a statement shortly after the plea was announced stating "Public officials must be held to the highest ethical and legal standards."
In an "Unrelated" matter, John Conyers has decided to drop his investigation of wrongdoing by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). Conyers, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee cited that the probe of the liberal activist group's allegations of voter fraud, misappropriation of funds and mob-style "protection" racketeering was stopped by the "powers that be." I wonder who those "Powers" are. Could "they" be the Obama administration, that just gave ACORN the task of helping out with the 2010 census? It would not do for those Obama needs to perpetrate more voter registration fraud for next year's mid-term elections to be under congressional investigation. Here's an idea that may seem outlandish for those who suffer from liberal denial. I think there IS a connection between Mrs. Conyer's plea deal and Mr. Conyers dropping the ACORN probe. Either Conyers made a deal with Attorney General Eric Holder to drop the ACORN probe in exchange for leniency for his wife, or, Holder threatened to throw the book at her if he (Conyers) did not back off on ACORN. In either case, we have another example of the malignant corruption we have to put with from Washington. This is nowhere near the end of this story.
"Enough Said!"
