Message to Senate GOPs: Don't take the bait, confirm Sotomayor for SCOTUS

06-16-09
503 Days to the Mid-Term Congressional Elections

I'm going to get to the point. We cannot and must not let Barack Obama make us conservatives look like racists. That is exactly what will happen if Senate Republicans vote against confirming Sonia Sotomayor as the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS). Yes, she is an activist judge who may tend not to stick to the law and the Constitution, practice "empathy" and legislate from the bench.  She is a self-described product of affirmative action in that she was admitted to Yale Law School inspite of her grades. Finally, yes, she is a racist with her claim that a wise latina woman with the "richness of her past" could make a better  judicial decision than an older white judge. The problem is that any legitimate criticism aimed at Sotomoayor will be tagged by Obama and his henchmen in the media as Republican racism aginst Hispanic/Latino Americans. Obama knows this, hence his choosing Sotomayor as a TOKEN to curry favor with Hispanics.  After losing the House and Senate in 2006 and the White House last year over the issue of immigration, the GOP cannot afford to further anger Hispanic Americans by denying Sotomayor her seat on the highest court in the land. Yes, put her through the system, ask the hard questions. Maybe she will break under the pressure a confirmation process can generate and withdraw. However if she stands up to the heat and survives to confirmation, she can take her seat on the Supreme bench and the GOP can save face (not to mention garner Latino votes). Don't make it easy for her or Obama, but make them pay for it.

"Enough Said!"
