Well, Folks...
It is done, Congress has passed the largest government spending bill in history and has sent it on to President Obama for his signature. $787 BILLION of our taxpayer dollars will be passed off as "Stimulus" to jump start a crippled economy. Stimulating the economy is all fine and good to me, but this bill ain't cutting it. There's still way too much pork spending and way too little in the way of tax cuts and spending cuts. There were no cuts in capital gains, windfall profits or payroll taxes Those measures would definitely lead to economic growth. However, cutting taxes for the "Wealthy" violates liberal dogma. What we have here is some 14 years of liberal earmarks that were kept on the backburner waiting for the Democrats to retake both the Congress and the Presidency with full control. Spending on social programs such as food stamps ($20 BILLION). Spending for "Paid Volunteers" at the Corporation for National and Community Service ($160 MILLION). Spending for the national passenger rail system AMTRAK ($850 MILLION) which as not made a dime in 40 years. Spending on "Smoking cessation activities" (75 MILLION), I'll bet no lawmaker in the "Big Tobacco" States supported that earmark. How about The National Endowment of the Arts ($50 MILLION). Every time I think of Government support of the arts, I think of Robert Mapplethorpe, whose artwork was considered offensive (Crucifixes dipped in urine). Mapllethorpe died of AIDS in 1989 and I keep thinking which is more important, bankrolling his artwork or artwork like it, or taking that money and spending it on research to fine a cure for the disease that took his life. Now, Here's my favorite, funding for community activists groups like The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). You remember ACORN? That band of great Americans whose strongarm tactics aimed at forcing mortgage lenders to relax their loan standard requirements to low-income homebuyers were a contributing factor in the collapse of the mortgage industry. This is of course when they weren't engaged in mass voter registration fraud. Remember when the ACORN office in Las Vegas was raided by the Feds for signing up the entire starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys?
These were just a few of the "Porky" amendments Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) said the American people did not really care about. These "Porky" amendments are paid for with OUR TAX MONEY!!! The American people had better bloody well start caring about where the money goes when it is coming form our pockets. I wonder how much of this spending orgy will actually lead to economic prosperity. How many permanent jobs will come from this bill? How much wealth will be generated? How many generations of Americans
will it take to pay this off? Questions like these should have been addressed before passing this legislation on to President Obama for his signiture. All I can say is that this plan had better work. $787 BILLION had better get results or we are all going to suffer.
"Enough Said!"
